Because aircraft generate relatively large expenses on tax returns, especially with the purchase incentives of depreciation, they may be more subject to you receiving an IRS notice. Generally it’s not a great idea to represent yourself in front of the IRS on an aircraft issue for a variety of reasons. Even if you have wonderful records, and your deductions are very, very clean, it’s very likely that the IRS auditor that is conducting the audit has very little experience in understanding the aircraft deductions or even how aircraft are operated. You can waste a lot of time and money with ridiculous questions or side paths that they take, because they simply don’t understand the deductions. By having a representative that’s very familiar with business aircraft, you can make the audit much less expensive for you and go much more quickly.
